Since it began, the Driftwood has been an important part of the Malindi community and is a popular place to meet for a meal and a drink. A short distance from Malindi Town and from Malindi Airport, the Driftwood is easily accessible. Several airlines fly a daily scheduled service from Nairobi.

Ambience

Overlooking the sea, beach and swimming pool the main bar and dining room set the tone for a relaxed drink or meal at any time of day.

Linger over breakfast watching the timeless tradition of the fishermen setting out for the day’s catch in their dhows. Enjoy a drink and snack around the pool in the middle of the day. Alternatively, the seafood restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes, from the most mouth-watering selection of fresh seafood to a tender char grilled steak cooked to perfection. Have a romantic dinner out under the stars listening to the tide lapping gently along the shore.

All rooms are air-conditioned and en-suite with spacious mosquito nets and are individually situated in the lush tropical gardens, all with easy access to the pool and seconds from the beach.

Activities

The Driftwood can offer a wide variety of activities including deep sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, golf at the Malindi Golf Club and bird watching in the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest. Near the forest are the famous Gedi ruins (large 13th – 17th century deserted Swahili town) which are always worth a visit. Or take a sundowner dhow cruise on Mida Creek – a rare experience!

For both beginners and those with more experience kite surfing is available within easy access to the Driftwood. Wind surfing and water skiing can also be arranged. Alternatively, let us organize a safari for you to Tsavo East, Kenya’s biggest National Park where a variety of animals such as elephant, lion, leopard and a host of plains game can be seen. Tsavo East is also rich in bird life.
