The Masai Mara
The Masai Mara National Reserve is the most famous and most visited reserve in Kenya and offers a breathtaking and extraordinary density of animals. An impressive feature is the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle from the plains of the Serengeti that cross the Tanzanian border and rivers to reach the Mara's lush grassland from late June.
Ol Kinyei Conservancy: The exclusive wildlife conservancy of Ol Kinyei, one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the Serengeti-Mara eco-system. This is pristine wilderness with open savannah plains, riverine forest, springs, streams and rivers, rolling hills and spectacular views across the Mara. Ol Kinyei belongs to a Maasai community who have recently set aside the conservancy as a sanctuary for wildlife. The 10,000 acre conservancy holds a wide variety of the animal species for which the Mara is famous including a large resident pride of lions as well as several leopards. Cheetahs are frequently seen and buffalo and elephant are often to be seen in large numbers. The wildebeest migration from the Loita plains passes through Ol Kinyei and into the Mara Reserve. Within Ol Kinyei Conservancy there is only one camp, Mara Porini Camp, allowing an exclusive wilderness experience for only 12 guests.
Olare Orok Conservancy: The 20,000 acre Olare Orok Conservancy borders the Masai Mara Game Reserve is home to an abundance of animals including the Big Cats for which the Mara is famous. Olare Orok has vast open savannah plains that are teeming with wildebeest during the migration period and has several resident prides of lion as well. The Olare Orok Conservancy is exclusive to the 3 camps and minibus vans are not permitted so the only vehicles are the few 4x4 safari vehicles from Porini Lion Camp, Kicheche Bush Camp and Film Safaris Camp.
