Tanzania Safari

Tanzania lies in East Africa, just South of the equator, mainland Tanzania lies between the area of the great lakes; Victoria, the second-largest freshwater lake in the world, Tanganyika, one of the deepest in the world and Malawi – with the Indian Ocean on its' coastline to the east. Other lakes within Tanzania include Natron, Eyasi, Manyara and Rukwa.

Tanzania is less developed than Kenya, but is as fascinating and exciting as any safari destination in the world. Most commonly, known is Tanzania's "northern circuit" which includes Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater and the vast Serengeti National Park.  From the beaches Zanzibar (The Spice Island) to the wild virgin bush of Ruaha and Selous (the largest game park on the continent) with their abundant wildlife, and the highest free – standing mountain in the world, the snow-capped Kilimanjaro, Tanzania is a large and fascinating country, the home of safari: Tanzania is a culturally diverse land much of which remains barely touched by tourism.

The best time to visit the Southern Tanzania Safari circuit is in the drier winter months between June and October whilst the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit can be vistied in most months although the wet season from late March to May is better avoided.

Northern Circuit

Serengeti the incomparable subject of a thousand wildlife documentaries and home to the great migration.
Lake Manyara National Park is a small scenically diverse park with a wide variety of habitats and game.
Mikumi National park is a large park bordering the Selous with good game concentrations and easy access. Tarangire National Park is quiet with excellent game and elephant in particular are found in huge numbers in the dry season

Ruaha National Park is Tanzania's second largest park and has huge game concentrations and variety and few visitors.

Katavi National Park is very remote, rarely visited and teeming with big game.

Selous Game Reserve is the spiritual home of the old big game hunters, an unspoiled wilderness and the largest reserve in Africa.

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is forested and home to many primates some of which are found nowhere else. It has excellent hiking.

Ngorongoro Crater is the world famous crater with big five game viewing and incomparable scenery it receives thousands of visitors every year.

Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia island is an exotic spice island with beautiful beaches and rich Swahili culture.

The range of adventurous and less adventurous activities that can be experienced include climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, horse riding at West Kilimanjaro or Grumeti, tiger fishing in the Selous Game Reserve and for Nile perch in Lakes Tanganyika and Victoria, snorkelling, scuba, sailing and big game fishing on Zanzibar and the Islands and balloon flights in the Serengeti.

A Safari holiday or a safari and beach holiday combining some of Tanzania's magnificent national parks with a few days on the beautiful palm fringed coral beaches of of the Swahili Coast or the romantic islands of Zanzibar, Pemba or Mafia.
