KwaZulu Natal - Coastal Region
Throughout the year, holidaymakers flock to their favourite coastal haunts to cultivate a tan, ride the waves, eat, drink and generally have fun. Besides sweeping beaches and calm lagoons where surfing, snorkelling, fishing and swimming are enjoyed, visitors can play golf, bowls and tennis or just soak up the sun. The capital city, Durban, is a bustling seaport and a cultural melting pot.
HLUHLUWE RIVER LODGE
Situated on the western shore of Lake St. Lucia in the isiMangaliso Wetland Park, Hluhluwe River Lodge overlooks the spectacular Hluhluwe floodplain and False Bay. Accommodation for sixteen people is in luxury thatched A-frame chalets, all en-suite and with open-air showers enclosed in a boma. Each chalet boasts a beautiful wooden viewing deck from which guests can enjoy the surrounding woodlands. The main lodge, which is built in a colonial style, houses the central living and dining area, a large wooden viewing deck where sundowners are served in the evening, a swimming pool, library and outdoor boma. Activities to choose from at the lodge include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, lake cruises, birding excursions, walking safaris and fishing trips.
SELBORNE
Selborne is perfectly positioned on the sub-tropical coast of KwaZulu Natal, and is home to the beautiful and well-established Selborne golf course. Surrounded with indigenous trees and plants, this coastal forest course boasts a variety of antelope and more than 150 bird species. Selborne has forty-nine rooms, one presidential suite, nine garden suites, thirty-six luxury garden units as well as three rooms in the manor house. The property has its own private beach club and is an ideal venue for families, keen golfers and those that want to get away from it all.
ROCKTAIL BAY BEACH CAMP
Rocktail Beach Camp is located about 30 minutes drive from Rocktail Bay Lodge and is situated at the current Rocktail Dive Centre. The camp is set back in and shaded by the sanctuary of the lush coastal forest that covers the ancient dunes that make up the edge of South Africa’s north-east coast.
The camp consists of twelve rooms (including three family units), most of which have a view of the ocean. All have en-suite bathrooms, open-feel indoor shower and overhead fans. Rocktail Beach Camp also has a central dining room, bar and lounge with large wrap around veranda. A television set and iPod are available in the camp's main area for guests' enjoyment, as well as a large pool. From a scuba diving perspective, Rocktail Bay is unique. Not only is the diving conducted within a Reserve and World Heritage Site along unspoiled reefs, but divers have the luxury of knowing that they alone have access to these sites and are the only underwater visitors along this stretch of the coastline.
