Rwanda is a tiny landlocked republic in Equatorial Africa, situated between the two largest river systems: the Nile and the Congo. This “land of a thousand hills”, is a mountainous country with a moist, temperate year-round climate, ideal for the mountain Gorilla's which can be found around the Virunga volcanoes.
Other places of interest are Nyungwe Forest, renowned for its large troops of Colobus monkeys and rich variety of orchids. Akagera National Park is a savannah park with elephants, hippo and crocodile. Lake Kivu is a beautiful inland sea with a large variety of birds.
Political and social stability returned to Rwanda in 1999 with the new Government of National Unity. Since then it has become a popular place to track the Mountain Gorillas. |
